How to Be Great.
This is a picture of my profoundly kind friend Reco Lemon in Korea. His wonderful wife, Leneigh, wrote this about him.
“He doesn’t know I took this picture but it brought tears to my eyes as I watched him take off his shoes and give them to this homeless man who had no socks or shoes.
This man was almost in tears and bowed down on his face 3 times, he was so thankful. His poor feet looked like he hasn’t had shoes in a very long time.”
This act reminds me of what my mentor, Jim Rohn said, while paraphrasing Jesus:
“To be great, find a way to serve the many.”
Specifically, in the Bible:
Matthew 20: 25-27
25 But Jesus called them aside and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their superiors exercise authority over them. 26 It shall not be this way among you. Instead, WHOEVER WANTS TO BECOME GREAT AMONG YOU MUST BE YOUR SERVANT, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave—
Mark 9:35
Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the last of all and the servant of all.”
Ironically, I know Reco isn’t doing this to be “great,” that’s not on his mind–he wants to truly help another human being.
HOWEVER.
THIS is what Christianity is–and should be. It’s serving others.
The heart of Christ and His teachings aren’t in a pew; but out and about helping others.
Thank you so much, Reco and Leneigh. Seeing this and feeling it make me want to be a better man.
